Guides Is a very normal word or expression for those who
deal with adobe Photoshop. Guides are guiding lines. They can guide you through
your work or your design, but they aren't considered as a part of the photo.
you can add any number of guides to your photo during your work session, and at the end when you save your photo you won't find these lines in the produced photo. The guides remain in Photoshop; they don't come out with the photo. & Guides are not limited; you can add unlimited number of guides on your photo.

These red lines you see are guides I’ve made.
The first one
the other way to make your guides
press Left click on the ruler and drag a guide from it to anywhere. It’s that simple.
to hide guides
to erase or move guides
& if you want to disable this option by which you can move guides with move tool, you'll need to lock guides like that
color & style of guides
You can change the guides colors
Each guide is surrounded by something like a magnetic field; it helps you to position your objects rightly or to make a right selection.
But how I made them?
There is two different ways.
The first one
From the view menu choose (new
guide)
choose horizontal or
vertical guide. and In the position field write the distance that will be between the guide and the photo border (left border with vertical guide - top border with
horizontal guide).
You can write the distance in inches like that (5 in) or in centimeters like that
(5 cm), etc…
This way is very accurate because you define a specific
distance, but it takes a lot of time to make a guide & you can only make
one guide each time, which means you have to repeat these steps with every new
guide
the other way to make your guides
press Left click on the ruler and drag a guide from it to anywhere. It’s that simple.
How to show the ruler? From view menu choose rulers.
to hide guides
You can hide (not erase) the guides like that
And do that again to
show them back
to erase or move guides
To erase all your guides with one click
From view choose clear
guides
(note: you don't need to erase the guides before saving your image since they by default don't come out with the image)
To erase only one
guide
Choose the move tool
And pick the guide and
drag it to the ruler
You can also use the
move tool to just move your guide
& if you want to disable this option by which you can move guides with move tool, you'll need to lock guides like that
color & style of guides
You can change the guides colors
Edit <
preferences < guides, grid & slices...
And in the guides box
you can change the color and the style of your guides
Note: You can also open
the preferences window by double clicking on the rulers
why there is guides !!???
Now you know how to
make, hide, move and erase your guides and how to change their color and style
But how you can use
them? How they can help you?
Of course they
organize the way you see your photo with these splitting lines, but that’s not
the most important benefit
Each guide is surrounded by something like a magnetic field; it helps you to position your objects rightly or to make a right selection.
Guides can pull the
borders or the center of an object while moving it, or pull the borders of a
selection while making it
So you can make
accurate guides with accurate distances as I told you earlier(view > new guide) and they will
help you perfectly in positioning your objects in the right places.
you can turn off this magnetic field like that
view > snap to > guides
& remove the check mark
that's it. i hope you knew something new.
& if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me or just leave a comment.
have a good day
